For the past few years, I’ve been digging pretty deep into the dark ambient genre. I find this type of music to be oddly soothing background noise when I’m trying to concentrate at work—and it sounds like the score to a horror film which makes it a win-win in my book.
2018 actually saw a bunch of solid releases from artists in/adjacent to the genre (like Tapes and Topographies, Atrium Carceri, & False Mirror, just to name a few), but Desiderii Marginis’s weird, droning mix of chimes, bells, chanting, and metallic WEEEWWUUURRRNNN noises really takes the cake for me.
